On the ground in Haifa: History, scenery and environment. About

The project contains pictures with historical significance taken throughout the city from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. The photographs present various aspects of the architecture, daily life and views of the city in different eras. Thus, they serve as concrete evidence of the city's development process.

This initiative is the result of collaboration between the University of Haifa's Younes & Soraya Nazarian Library and both public and private institutions such as the Conservation Unit of the Municipality of Haifa, the Histadrut labor union and the Haifa History Society. It also includes private collections donated directly to the University of Haifa library.
The library is in charge of building the project, cataloging the photographs and making the material accessible to researchers, students and the general public. Since the items are not restricted by copyright, the information can be freely accessed on the Web. The project is constantly evolving and enriched by new materials; hence, it is an inseparable part of the Library's efforts to preserve the cultural legacy of the State of Israel, in order to ensure accessibility to the information for generations to come.

There are two ways to access the information:

red bullet a. Browsing through structured collections, according to pre-defined subjects, e.g. names of streets, neighborhoods or collections' names.
red bullet b. Individual user search. It is possible to search according to specific subjects such as: nature and landscape preservation, stores, vehicles, public structures, etc
