Tips for searching stories in the IFA catalog<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

You can search using different criteria\u2014separately or in combination\u2014using free text or advanced search. Below are several recommended categories to begin a thematic search if there is no specific story you want to look for:<\/p>

Name of the storyteller<\/p>

Name of the recorder<\/p>

Ethnic\/community group<\/p>

Genre<\/p>

Tale type (Aarne\u2013Thompson)<\/p>

Various keywords (such as objects, places, characters, and more)<\/p>

You can narrow the results by the year of recording in advance through Advanced Search<\/strong>.
After initial results are obtained, they can be further refined according to the different characteristics.<\/p>

Not getting (enough) results? Try removing some of the search restrictions, using synonyms, or searching with fewer keywords at the same time.<\/p>

To locate a tale type<\/strong>: the Aarne\u2013Thompson type index<\/strong> from 1973 is available online here. The Aarne\u2013Thompson\u2013Uther index<\/strong> from 2004 is available as a physical copy in various libraries.<\/p>
