Amplifying with Greek and Hebrew

When amplifying Greek and Hebrew, the results vary depending on whether the source and/or target are tagged texts. Each of the different results when amplifying to and from Greek and Hebrew tagged and non-tagged texts are described below.

Selection IN a Tagged Text To...

• Amplify to a tagged text: The lexical forms for word and phrase searches are used. When only one word is selected, the Equal sign is added to the search argument to make an exact search.
• Amplify to a non-tagged text: The inflected forms for word and phrase searches are used.
• Amplify to a tool or to Search All: The lemmaThe canonical (dictionary) form of a word (lexical) forms for all words are used, but phrases are broken into a list of lemmas. (Breaking up the phrase is most useful for lexicons.)
• Triple-click on a word to search for the lexical formThe canonical (dictionary) form of a word in the top Greek or Hebrew lexicon. (In Hebrew any prefix or suffix is removed.)

• When amplifying defaults to the lemma, press Alt+ while amplifying to find the inflected words. Press –ShiftAlt+ while amplifying to find the roots.

  Hint when Amplifying in Hebrew To... If the suffix is NOT selected, amplifying from a Hebrew word ignores the suffix.

Amplify TO a Tagged Text (different amplifyTo select words or a verse reference in a text pane, and then pick the resource from the Resource palette or Amplify menu; Accordance opens the associated resource with your selection sources)

• Amplify from non-tagged text: The search is for inflected forms (adds quotation marks) for words and phrases.
• Amplify from Keyed Bible text while pressing Alt+: The search is for lexical forms. A phrase is separated into a list of lemmas.
• Amplify from a tool: If a single word is selected (such as a lexicon entry), the search is for the lemma. If a phrase is selected (such as a citation in a lexicon), an inflected search (adds quotation marks) is performed. If a single word lemma search is unsuccessful, Accordance repeats the search, this time as an inflected search (adds quotation marks).
• The equal sign is not added to any of these searches.
