Keyed Bible Texts

Accordance offers a number of English texts versions tagged with Key numbers. A “key number” text identifies the original Hebrew or Greek word behind the English translation. It also lets you access original language resources, without knowing either Hebrew or Greek.

The numbering system developed by James Strong has been used for over a hundred years. It gives people who do not know the original languages of Scripture the ability to gain information about the Greek and Hebrew words behind their English translations.

While originally available only for the King James, today this system has been revised and expanded to a number of different English translations. For this reason, Accordance Bible Software uses the term Key number to refer to any numbering system which links an English translation with the original Greek or Hebrew.

Accordance Bible Software currently offers six English versions tagged with Strong’s numbers. In each case, the “S” on the end of the translation code indicates “Strong’s numbers.” The GNT-TRS is a Greek text with Strong's numbers.

In addition, some texts are available with a different, more modern numbering system devised by Goodrick and Kohlenberger.

Each of these texts comes with a Hebrew and Greek dictionary with a brief definition for every word in the Bible. In Accordance you can use Key numbers as part of a search definition and amplifyTo select words or a verse reference in a text pane, and then pick the resource from the Resource palette or Amplify menu; Accordance opens the associated resource with your selection to and from Key number texts. You can also view the Key numbers and original or transliterated words, and triple-click on a word to link directly to the dictionary entry for that Key number.

Key numbers are displayed in the Instant Details. The letters GK before a number indicate it is from the Goodrick-Kohlenberger numbering system. You can change which instant details are displayed via the Preferences dialog box (Instant Details area).
