IFA’s collection of folktales
The collection of the month is dedicated this time to the IFA’s collection of folktales. The archive was founded in Haifa in 1955 by Professor Dov Noy to document and preserve the folk tales of the various communities in Israel and to study them using scholarly methods. The archive contains more than 25,000 stories from 70 different ethnic communities currently living in Israel. The Israel Folktale Archives (IFA) was recognized by UNESCO as a Memory of the World heritage site.
Prof. Dina Stein has served as the archive’s academic director since 2016. In 2022 IFA became a unit within the library.
