About the Library
The Younes & Soraya Nazarian Library is a one of the largest central academic libraries in Israel. The Library, since its establishment in 1963, has built a well-known reputation for its service-oriented focus and technologically advanced information systems. A staff of academic information specialists assists users in searching for information in the library’s varied types of resources and in a wide variety of fields of knowledge.
One of the library’s unique projects is the development of the Index to Hebrew Periodicals (IHP), a multidisciplinary database that enables users to search for references to hundreds of thousands of academic, business and popular articles published in selected Hebrew journals, collections and newspapers on many subjects: Judaica, literature, education, history and archaeology, arts and architecture, medicine, law, agriculture, nature, science, technology, society and politics.
The library allocates resources for development, preservation and digitization of special collections, such as: University of Haifa Theses & Dissertations, Publications of University of Haifa Researchers, Historical Pictures of the Holy Land & the State of Israel, Performing Arts & Theatre Archives, and others. These collections can be viewed in the Digital Media Center and support research and teaching within the university and beyond its walls.
Over the years, generous monetary and material gifts from donors have helped enrich the quality and range of the Library's collections and enabled us to expand the resources available to our students and researchers above and beyond required materials for courses. We encourage you to participate in this tradition by becoming a donor and helping enhance the teaching and research opportunities in our University.
