February 2024

Dear Doctoral Student,

With a heavy heart, we have opened the academic year in the library as well and we are offering all the usual services.

The library staff is as committed as ever to assist in obtaining and accessing all the information materials you require for your
teaching and research.
An initiative headed by the reference librarians offers remote assistance in the evenings to students
and staff members currently serving or returning from reserve duty.

All of us at the library will assist students returning from reserve duty to complete their assignments from the previous and current
academic years.
As in every new year, we reached out to all new doctoral students and offered the ongoing assistance of
an information specialist throughout the doctoral research.
The librarians are matched by the subject and the research proposal.

The newsletter contains the main library services and new materials that could interest and help you. We hope you find
the newsletter useful.

You are welcome to reach out in every subject related to your information requirements and we will do our best to
assist you quickly and efficiently.

Hoping for calmer days and a fruitful academic year.

Naomi and the library staff

From Idea to Scholarly

From Idea to Scholarly Article: Information Skills for Research Students

All research students at the university need high level information skills including locating research articles published
around the world, critical reading, academic writing and some familiarity with scholarly journals. In addition, the use of
Artificial Intelligence (AI) during the process of study and research is fast developing and requires learning and skill.

Knowing that the need for skill development is a transdisciplinary one, the Library and the Unit for Online Learning developed a course,
with academic mentorship, titled: From idea to scholarly article – information skills for research students.

The course is comprised of four units:

  1. Searching for and organizing information

  2. Research writing

  3. Challenges during the writing process

  4. Sharing with the scientific community

A fifth unit focused on AI tools is currently underway.

The course is based on active and experiential learning and contains varied materials: videos, interactive exercises, references, texts,
and a concluding task.
The course is available for self-use of all research students at this link.

Assistance evaluating publication list

Assistance evaluating publication list (CV)

As of the past few years, researchers have been required to present evidence of the impact their research activity
(publications and other research output) has on the scientific community.

The number of citations and the journal ranking are some of the accepted criteria for evaluating scientific research.
The library assists in noting the ranking in the researcher’s publications list (on their CV).
