This page outlines our current prominent services. All information about library services and resources is available on the library's website and is updated regularly. 

The Younes and Soraya Nazarian Library at the University of Haifa is a central academic library serving the research and teaching needs of all faculties and programs. It is one of the largest academic libraries in Israel and one of the most progressive Israeli libraries in the realm of services and technology and library information systems.

Library opening hours as of the beginning of the academic year

08:00-20:00 Sundays-Thursdays

08:00-13:00 Friday

The library is operating in accordance with Green Pass requirements. All visitors will be required to wear a mask.

Library services end fifteen minutes before the Library closes.

Circulation desk
The Circulation Desk, which is located at the entrance to the library, is responsible for lending library items and discharging them once they are returned, supplying books that were ordered from the shelf or from other readers, and regulating library services to readers.

When the Library is closed, items may be returned to the bin located at the fourth floor of Eshkol Tower, or deposited through the opening to the right of the Library's entrance. In addition, items can be sent back to the library via registered mail / couriers to the following address:

Face-to-face assistance

Face-to-face assistance at the reference desk will be provided on the beginning of the academic year on Sundays-Thursdays between 10:00-18:00

Email reference service

Are you writing a paper and need help finding articles and books? You can also contact us by email. We are happy to assist you in the search process. We usually send search results. We can also send up to three articles in full text if needed.

Personal assistance via Zoom meeting

Our reference desk is currently unavailable, however you can schedule a Zoom video session with us during which we will assist you with information search and retrieval. The service is provided Sundays through Thursday between Thursdays between 8:00am to 6:00pm. If you would like to schedule an appointment, send us a message on WhatsApp 054-3933090 and we will get back to you as soon as possible.


Assistance in finding materials and information

Information retrieval

The library's collection is rich and diverse and includes over 2.5 million items in paper and electronic format. You can find the information you need remotely through our OneSearch system on the library website. The library staff has prepared several short tutorials for easy and effective use of our search system (in Heb.) . Attached are two instructional videos on book search and Hebrew article search. Remote access to library resources

To search the library's databases and get access to electronic items (books and articles), you must remotely connect to the library's resources. How is that done? See the following short video to learn how.

Article and Book Chapter Scans from the library collection

Until we return to the regular library routine, you can order scans of articles and book chapters (including table of contents) from the library collection at no cost. You can order up to two scans per day and receive them by email. Additional information and an order form can be found at the following link.

The inter-library loan service

If the library does not have access to an item you need, we can to locate it in another library even during lockdown. You may order books, theses and articles from other libraries in the country. At this stage, it is not possible to borrow books from abroad. It is recommended to request Scans and not Book Loans. Books that were requested can be collected from the library entrance or when the library opens to the public. For additional information and to open an order form click on the following link.

Media Items Loans

Media item loan and return takes place circulation service desk located at the entrance of the library. Late returns of all media items result in fines and blockage of library loan privileges. Audio CDs and disks can be requested and their loan can be extended. Loan period is stated under "copies and locations" in the library catalogue. Please check the status of your loans under "My Account, Loans & Requests".

This website is designed to provide information on Interlibrary loans (ILL) and document delivery in Israel and abroad. Reserved Books Loans

There is no limit to the number of reserved books that can be loaned at one time for students or faculty. The Reserve room is an open-shelf collection. Readers can go to the shelves and choose the desired books themselves. Books are loaned at the Reserve desk by presenting an identity card (such as a student card or a faculty card) that proves eligibility for library services.

Loan period of Reserved books

Books with black tape can be loaned overnight (from two hours prior to the closing of the library until 10:00 the next day), for two hours during the day or for a week-end (from Thursday at 15:45 till Sunday at 10:00). 
Books with grey tape or grey/green tape can be loaned at any time during library opening hours for three days.

Returning of Reserved books

Reserved books can be returned at any time during library opening hours. Overnight loans must be returned by 10:00 the next day. Fines will be incurred on overdue books for each day each book is overdue (not including days that the library is closed). Readers with overdue books or unpaid fines are not entitled to library services until their fines have been paid. Readers may submit requests to cancel or to reduce the amount of a fine. Reserved books can be returned by mail or courier. The discharge date is the date that the books arrive in the Reserve room. It is the reader's responsibility to make sure that books arrive in the Reserve room and are discharged. After library opening hours Reserved books can be returned to the "Return box" on the fourth floor of Eshkol tower. The return date will be considered the next library opening day.

Renewing Reserved books

The items will be renewed automatically unless they are requested by another patron. We strongly advise that you regularly check your account on the library home page for updates.. Books that have been requested by other readers will not be renewed.

Acquisitions, Cataloging and Clasification

The Acquisitions, Cataloging and Clasification services purchases, catalogs and classifies materials and also handles binding and repair
of books. The objective of the service is to speedily order and process print and non-print materials selected by faculty and librarians for study and research purposes.
